A Brief History of the Community

The former Del Monte Pickle Factory, Mariani Square was one of the first developments in the area that provided for individually owned homes. Of all the projects in the neighborhood, it has been the most successful at integrating itself into the fabric of the surrounding community. The central green and large water tower are remnants of the former Mariani Packing plant.

Mariani Square has 114 row houses and 45 loft units on a block bounded by Jackson, Empire, 7th and 9th Street. A small section of 8th Street provides additional access to the community. Most of the row houses were completed in early 2004, and a long narrow brick warehouse was converted later that year into 41 of the 45 lofts.
